At 3in from the turbo back, the MPI Automotive SSMKMI0019 is a full turbo-back system for the Mitsubishi Triton MQ that drops the catalytic converter and runs a compact hotdog resonator. The 3in bore is the larger-pipe path for a modified or harder-worked MQ.
What does a 3in turbo-back cover?
A turbo-back replaces the exhaust from the turbo outlet all the way back, a longer span than a cat-back and the point where a diesel like the MQ Triton's tends to free up. At 3in the SSMKMI0019 is the bigger-bore option, sized for a modified or higher-output build rather than a stock tune. It finishes with a hotdog resonator rather than a full muffler.
Why the hotdog over a muffler?
The hotdog is a slim straight-through resonator that trims cruise drone on a targeted frequency while keeping the system flowing freely. Against a chambered muffler it is the louder, harder-noted choice on the MQ, with no decibel figure published by the supplier.
Is it road legal?
No. Because it deletes the catalytic converter on a road-relevant exhaust path, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is sold for off-road use only. A turbo-back at 3in that drops the cat is an off-road build, and the hotdog handles resonance rather than emissions.
