The MPI Automotive SSMKTY0189 is a 3in turbo-back for the DPF-model Toyota Landcruiser VDJ78 V8 Troopy that deletes the catalytic converter and runs a hotdog resonator. The cat-delete defines it: with the converter removed this is an off-road-only system, paired with a compact hotdog to take the edge off the note.
Why this is an off-road-only build
Because the SSMKTY0189 removes the catalytic converter on a road-relevant diesel system, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road use only. There is no softening that — deleting the cat on the Troopy takes it out of road-legal emissions configuration, so we fit it for genuine off-road applications only.
What does the hotdog give over an open build?
A hotdog is a small straight-through resonator: gas passes through a perforated core wrapped in packing, trimming the harshest frequencies without the restriction of a baffled muffler. On this cat-deleted Troopy turbo-back it gives a freer-flowing path than a full muffler while softening the raw edge. It is the hotdog point in the VDJ78 Troopy range.
