The MPI Automotive SSMKTY0198 is a 4in single system for the pre-DPF Toyota Landcruiser VDJ79 V8 4.5L turbo-diesel dual cab ute (2012–2016) that runs no catalytic converter but adds a rear muffler. The cat-delete makes it an off-road-only system; the muffler is what sets it apart from the open version, keeping the note the more subdued of the cat-deleted builds.
Why it is off-road only
Removing the catalytic converter means the SSMKTY0198 is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road use only. There is no softening that — deleting the cat on a road-relevant diesel system takes the ute out of road-legal emissions configuration, so we fit it for off-road applications only.
What does the muffler add over the open version?
Unlike the open cat-deleted build, this configuration runs a rear muffler, so it sits at the quieter end of the cat-deleted options — the muffler reduces the note through chambering and absorption rather than letting the path run raw. It suits an owner who wants the freer flow of a cat-delete but a more measured character for longer drives off the bitumen.
