The MPI Automotive SSMKTY0309 is a 3in turbo-back for the 3.0L D4D Prado (KDJ120 and KDJ150) that deletes the cat while keeping a centre muffler and rear tailpipe — the cat-delete is the choice that defines this version against its with-cat sibling.
What does the cat-delete change?
This SKU's defining attribute is the removed catalytic converter. With the cat out of the 3in run, gas flows more freely than the with-cat version, but it carries a real legal consequence. Because it deletes the catalytic converter on a road-relevant system, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is sold for off-road use only.
Why keep the centre muffler and rear tailpipe?
Even with the cat gone, the SSMKTY0309 retains a centre muffler and a rear tailpipe, so it isn't a fully open system — the muffler keeps the 3.0L D4D's note settled rather than raucous. It's the cat-delete, not a muffler-delete, that makes this configuration what it is.
Is it road legal?
