The MPI Automotive SSMKTY0397 is a 4in DPF-section system listed to fit the Toyota VDJ79 V8 4.5L turbo-diesel ute from 2016, built without a cat and without a muffler. It's the most stripped-back of this VDJ79 group: single 4in bore, no cat, no muffler.
What does a no-cat, no-muffler DPF system mean?
This SSMKTY0397 removes both the catalytic converter and the rear muffler, leaving a clear single 4in run. With nothing in the path to filter emissions or quieten the note, it sits at the freest-flowing, loudest end of the VDJ79 range — an off-road build rather than a street upgrade.
Why the 4in single bore?
Sized at 4in to suit the 4.5L V8 diesel, the single large-bore run is about keeping the rear of the system as open as possible. Stainless construction gives it the corrosion life a working ute needs on dirt and salt. Because it deletes the cat, it changes the emissions hardware the vehicle left the factory with.
Is it road legal in NSW?
With the catalytic converter removed, removing the catalytic converter means it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW, so it's for off-road use only. The muffler-delete adds to that off-road character. Speak to the workshop about how you intend to use the vehicle before ordering.
