The cat-delete is what defines the MPI Automotive SSMKTY0405: it's the off-road build of this 3in turbo-back for the Toyota Landcruiser GDJ79 2.8L turbo-diesel ute (2023 on), running with no catalytic converter and no muffler at all. It's the least-restricted configuration in the family — and, because the cat is gone, strictly a competition and off-road system.
What does deleting the cat change here?
Removing the catalytic converter strips the largest restriction out of the run and is the one decision that sets this SKU apart from the with-cat builds in the same family. Combined with no muffler, the SSMKTY0405 has the freest, most open path of any GDJ79 turbo-back here. The flipside is legal: this is an off-road part by design, not a road system, and that's the trade you're making.
Is it road legal in NSW?
No. Because the SSMKTY0405 is built without the catalytic converter on a turbo-back diesel system, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is sold for off-road and competition use only. There's no qualifying that — if the ute needs to stay registered, this isn't the build, and we'll point you to a with-cat option instead.
Where does a no-muffler 3in turbo-back sit on the GDJ79?
Turbo-back means the system is replaced from the turbo outlet rearward, sized at 3in for the 2.8L turbo-diesel. With nothing in the run to chamber sound, gas flows straight from the turbo back — the loudest, least-restricted end of the range, suited to a dedicated off-road or competition 79 Series. Stainless construction handles the corrosion a working ute throws at it, at an RRP of $2,952.57.
