It pairs an open, hotdog-tuned tone with the freer flow of a deleted cat — a competition and off-road system rather than a road-registrable one.
What does removing the cat do on this build?
Deleting the catalytic converter takes the biggest restriction out of the run and is the single decision that separates the SSMKTY0406 from the with-cat hotdog build in the same family. The result is more open and freer-flowing, with the hotdog still pulling some drone out of the cabin. The trade is legal, not mechanical: this is an off-road part by design, and that has to suit how the ute is used.
Is the SSMKTY0406 road legal in NSW?
No. Because it's built without the catalytic converter on a turbo-back diesel system, the SSMKTY0406 is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is sold for off-road and competition use only. If the 79 Series needs to stay registered, the hotdog tone is available in a with-cat build instead — talk to us before you order.
What does the hotdog resonator contribute?
A hotdog is a compact, straight-through resonator that targets drone rather than overall volume. In this 3in turbo-back it's the middle tone path — more open than a muffler, but with some of the highway boom taken out compared with a bare straight-through pipe.
