Listed to fit the Toyota LandCruiser GDJ79 Ute 2.8L (2023 on), the MPI Automotive SSMKTY0412 is a 3in dual turbo-back that runs a hotdog resonator in place of a chambered muffler. The hotdog is the part that shapes its character — a straight-through tuning device, not a volume-killing box.
Turbo-back without cat — what's included and removed?
Turbo-back means the system replaces everything from the turbo outlet rearward, the longest span on a diesel ute. The SSMKTY0412 deletes the catalytic converter in this configuration, so it's the engine-back path rather than a tailpipe swap, run in a 3in dual layout to suit the GDJ79's 2.8L. That makes it a bigger commitment than a rear-section change, and one we'd only recommend once you've settled how the ute will be used.
How does the hotdog change the note?
Rather than a baffled muffler, this build uses a hotdog: a perforated core in a small canister that cuts drone by absorption while staying free-flowing. Expect a turbo-diesel tone that's a step firmer than factory without becoming boomy on a long drive, with the resonator taking the harsh edge off without choking the 3in pipe.
Is it road legal in NSW?
Because the SSMKTY0412 is a turbo-back without the cat, it removes emissions equipment fitted from new and is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW. It's supplied for off-road and competition use; check your circumstances with us first.
