STR131-3 is a dual 3in rear muffler built in 409 stainless for the VT-VZ V8 sedan. Supplied by Redback, it's the rear silencer of a twin 3in system — the box that does the final quietening at the back of the run, in a corrosion-resistant 409 stainless body.
Why 409 stainless?
409 is a stainless grade widely used for exhaust because it resists the heat and corrosion that rust a mild-steel muffler from the inside out, giving longer service life on a hard-worked V8 system. As the rear muffler it's the part most exposed to road spray and condensation, so the stainless body earns its keep there. It's the durable choice for the back of the run rather than a coated mild-steel box.
What does the dual 3in rear muffler do?
This is the rear silencer in a twin 3in layout, sitting at the back of the run to control the exit note before the tailpipe. At 3in it's the larger pipe size, sized for the V8 sedan rather than stock pipework, with the dual setup giving the engine two paths out. As a rear box it's a section of the system, matched to a 3in dual run rather than a complete exhaust.
