The MPI Automotive EMG019 is an extractor/manifold gasket listed to fit the Ford 289 and 302 Windsor EFI small-port V8. It's the sealing gasket between the cylinder head and the extractor or manifold, not the header itself.
What does this gasket cover?
The EMG019 is the flat exhaust gasket for the small-port EFI Windsor V8 in 289 and 302 form. It seals the joint where the extractor or factory manifold bolts to the cylinder head, keeping exhaust gas in the runner rather than leaking at the flange. The small-port head has its own port shape, which is why this gasket is listed specifically for the small-port 289/302 Windsor rather than the large-port version.
What is an extractor gasket and what does it do?
An extractor gasket is the replaceable seal between the cylinder head and the extractor or manifold. It is renewed whenever the headers come off — a head job, a leak, or an extractor swap — because the old gasket sets with heat and won't reseal. On a V8 each bank has its own gasket. A worn one ticks or hisses under throttle and can let fumes past. It does not add power on its own; its job is to keep the port-to-extractor joint gas-tight through the heat the Windsor generates.
