What does this gasket cover?
The EMG065 is the flat exhaust gasket for the 4.0-litre DOHC six in the BA Falcon. It seals the joint where the extractor or factory manifold meets the cylinder head, keeping exhaust gas in the runner rather than leaking at the flange. It is cut to the BA twin-cam port pattern, which is why it is listed against that specific 4.0-litre DOHC engine rather than the earlier crossflow Falcon sixes.
What is an extractor gasket and what does it do?
An extractor gasket is the replaceable seal between the cylinder head and the extractor or manifold. It is renewed whenever that joint is opened — new extractors, a head off, or a leak — because heat cycling hardens the old material so it won't reseal. On an in-line six the head runs a single exhaust face. A worn gasket ticks or hisses under load and can let fumes past. It does not change how the engine runs; its job is to keep the head-to-extractor joint gas-tight through the engine's heat cycles.
