What does the EMG287 seal?
This is the head-to-extractor gasket for the diesel Triton. When you bolt an extractor (header) onto the cylinder head, the EMG287 is the gasket that closes the gap between the two flanges so exhaust gas is forced down the runners rather than leaking at the joint. It is listed specifically for the 2.4L and 2.5L diesel Triton, so the port pattern is matched to those engines rather than the petrol variants.
Why does a diesel need the right gasket?
A diesel exhaust port runs hot and cycles between cold starts and hard load, so the flange joint has to stay sealed through constant expansion and contraction. The correct gasket holds that seal and keeps the bolts clamping evenly across the face. Fit the wrong port pattern and you get a blow at the head — a tick at idle, lost gas speed, and eventually a scorched flange. The EMG287 is the part matched to the 2.4L and 2.5L diesel Triton head.
Is this a one-off or a service item?
Treat the gasket as a consumable. Any time the extractor comes off the diesel Triton, the gasket should be renewed rather than reused — once it has taken a heat set and a clamp impression it will not seal a second time as well.
