The MPI Automotive FX-422 is a set of extractors listed to fit the Mitsubishi Lancer CJ with the 2.0-litre or 2.4-litre 4B11/4B12 engine, from 2008 onwards. It replaces the factory cast exhaust manifold at the cylinder head with a tubular extractor design.
What's an extractor and what does it do?
An extractor, or header, replaces the cast manifold bolted to the cylinder head with a set of tubes, giving each port its own runner before they merge. The aim is to reduce the back-pressure the engine works against as it clears spent gas. It's the first item in the exhaust, sitting right at the engine, with the rest of the system running behind it.
