The MPI Automotive FX-156HPC-S is a ceramic-coated extractor listed to fit the Ford Laser KF 1.8L single-cam from 1990 on. It is the silver ceramic-coated version of the same single-cam Laser header, replacing the factory cast manifold.
What is an extractor and what does it do?
An extractor, or header, swaps the factory cast exhaust manifold for separate tuned-length tubes that merge downstream. The aim is to ease the back-pressure a compact cast manifold creates so each cylinder can breathe out more freely. On a single-cam four like the Laser's 1.8L it bolts on at the head as the first exhaust step; it does not change the muffler or tailpipe behind it. The trade-off is that an extractor is a more involved fit than a stock manifold and sits ahead of the emissions hardware.
What does the ceramic coating add?
The HPC-S in the part number marks the silver ceramic-coated finish. A ceramic coating is applied to the tube surface mainly to manage heat and surface durability compared with a bare header. Beyond the coating, this is the same extractor as the uncoated FX-156 listed for the Laser, so the fitment and engine application are the same — the difference is the finish, not the design.
