The MPI Automotive FX-167 is a tuned extractor set listed to fit the Ford Falcon XC and XD with the six-cylinder crossflow cast-iron head. It replaces the factory exhaust manifold to give the engine a cleaner path out of the head.
What is an extractor and what does it change?
An extractor, or header, swaps the cast factory exhaust manifold for separate tuned-length tubes, one per cylinder, that merge further downstream. The idea is to reduce the back-pressure and exhaust-gas interference a compact cast manifold creates, so each cylinder breathes out more freely. It is a bolt-on change at the head rather than a full system, and on an older inline six like the Falcon's crossflow it is one of the first steps people take when freshening up the exhaust. What it does not do on its own is change the mufflers or tailpipe behind it.
