What does an extractor set actually change?
Extractors, also called headers, replace the cast factory exhaust manifold with individual tubed runners — one per cylinder — that merge into a collector. On the 302 Windsor EFI V8, the idea is to let each cylinder's exhaust pulse leave more freely than a shared cast manifold allows, which is where the breathing improvement comes from. They sit on the engine, ahead of whatever pipework and muffler the truck runs behind them.
