The MPI Automotive FX-439 is a set of extractors listed to fit the Mitsubishi MK Triton 2.4L 4G64 OHC 16V EFI 2WD, 1996 to 2006. It replaces the factory exhaust manifold at the head with a tubular extractor design.
What's an extractor and where does it sit?
An extractor, or header, replaces the cast manifold bolted to the cylinder head with a tubular set, running a tube from each port that merges downstream rather than sharing a single casting — the aim being to reduce the back-pressure the engine pushes against as it clears spent gas. It's the very first component in the exhaust, right at the engine, with everything else carrying on behind it. On the four-cylinder 4G64 that's a single tubular set, and it's a breathing change at the head only — it doesn't touch the engine's capacity or fuelling.
How does this differ from the DF version?
MPI lists a closely related FX-439DF, the direct-fit set built to bolt straight to the factory points. This plain FX-439 is the standard extractor set for the same Triton.
