The MPI Automotive FX-445 is a set of extractors listed to fit the Mitsubishi Magna 2.6L Astron engine with EGR. It replaces the factory exhaust manifold at the head with a tubular extractor design.
What's an extractor and what does it do?
An extractor, or header, replaces the cast manifold bolted to the cylinder head with a tubular set, giving each port its own runner before they merge — the aim being to reduce the back-pressure the engine works against as it clears spent gas. It's the first item in the exhaust, sitting right at the engine, with the rest of the system behind it. On the four-cylinder Astron that's a single tubular set. It's a breathing change at the head only; it doesn't alter the engine's capacity or fuelling.
Why does the EGR note matter?
This set is specified for the Astron Magna fitted with EGR — exhaust gas recirculation, which routes some exhaust back into the intake.
