The MPI Automotive FX-449 is a set of extractors listed to fit the Mitsubishi Triton with the 2.8-litre diesel engine. It replaces the factory cast exhaust manifold at the cylinder head with a tubular extractor design, and is specified for the diesel only.
What's an extractor and what does it do?
An extractor, or header, swaps the cast manifold bolted to the cylinder head for a set of tubes, giving each port its own runner before they merge. The aim is to reduce the back-pressure the engine works against as it pushes spent gas out. It's the first item in the exhaust line, sitting right at the engine, with the rest of the system running behind it. It's a breathing change at the head; it doesn't alter the engine's capacity or its fuelling.
