What does a single mid-system muffler do here?

A muffler tames the note by absorbing and reflecting the exhaust pulses inside its chamber, so this build is calmer than a bare straight-through pipe but not as hushed as a muffler-and-resonator pairing. With the cat deleted and no rear can to catch leftover cruise frequencies, some drone can still reach the cabin on the freeway. Can the KB9020-XXMX be registered in NSW?

No. There is no catalytic converter in this build, so it is a cat-delete turbo-back: not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW, and supplied for off-road use. We are upfront about that. What span does the 3in run cover?

It carries the exhaust from the turbo outlet to the tailpipe in a single 3in diameter — the full turbo-back length, longer than a cat-back. On a 3.2L diesel that is the section that opens up most, and the bore holds even from the turbo down to the centre muffler and out the back of the NW.
