The MPI Automotive MKMA0016 is a turbo-back for the 2020-on Mazda BT-50 3.0L that deletes the catalytic converter but finishes with a full muffler. The muffler is its character — the quietest of the cat-deleted 2020-on builds — though the cat-delete still makes it off-road only.
Why is this off-road only?
Because the MKMA0016 deletes the catalytic converter on a turbo-back system, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road use only. The turbo-back includes the emissions hardware from the turbo back, and removing the cat takes out equipment the 2020-on BT-50 needs to be road-legal. The muffler changes the sound, not the compliance — we state that plainly.
What does the muffler do on this build?
A muffler quietens by absorption and reflection, so even with the cat gone this turbo-back is the most subdued of the 2020-on 3.0L options. The free-flowing turbo-back length still opens the system up, but the rear muffler keeps the new-generation diesel note in check rather than letting it run raw. It suits an off-road build where the owner still wants the most liveable note of the cat-deleted range.
