Fitted with a hotdog resonator rather than a full muffler, the MPI Automotive SSMKMA0017 is a turbo-back system for the 2020-on 3.0L Mazda BT-50 that deletes the cat and keeps a compact straight-through silencer. It is listed to fit the BT-50 3.0L from 2020.

What does the hotdog change?

A hotdog is a small straight-through resonator — a perforated core wrapped in absorptive packing — so it takes the hardest edge off the note without the bulk of a chambered rear muffler. On the SSMKMA0017 that sits the sound between a fully open system and a mufflered one: more vocal than a rear-muffler build, but more contained than running nothing at all.

What is a turbo-back on the BT-50?

A turbo-back replaces everything from the turbo outlet rearward, the longest section MPI Automotive does for this 3.0L. Because this version is the without-cat layout, the catalytic converter is deleted as part of that run.

Is it road legal?

Because it removes the catalytic converter, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road or competition use only.

How is it fitted in the Illawarra?

Oak Flats Muffler Men supplies and fits this turbo-back in-house. It is listed to fit the 2020-on 3.0L BT-50; send your build and we will confirm the turbo flange and hanger alignment before booking.

How do we confirm the order?

This SSMKMA0017 is a supplier system from MPI Automotive carrying a listed RRP, ordered in once your fitment is confirmed. The supplier record doesn't publish the pipe diameter or material, so rather than guess we verify the spec against your actual BT-50 before placing the order — checking the turbo flange pattern, the hotdog mounting point and the rear hanger spacing so the section drops in cleanly.

Stocked and fitted by Oak Flats Muffler Men, the Illawarra exhaust and 4x4 specialist in Oak Flats, NSW.

Common questions

What is the difference between the hotdog and a muffler version?
The hotdog is a compact straight-through resonator that flows freely and stays louder; a rear muffler is chambered and quieter. This SSMKMA0017 is the hotdog build.
Is the SSMKMA0017 legal for the road?
No — it deletes the catalytic converter, so it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for NSW registration and is an off-road part.
Which BT-50 does it fit?
It is listed to fit the 2020-on 3.0L Mazda BT-50. Confirm your exact build with the workshop first.
