The MPI Automotive MKMA0017 is a turbo-back for the 2020-on Mazda BT-50 3.0L that deletes the catalytic converter and tunes the rear with a hotdog. The hotdog is the distinction here — a compact resonator that controls drone where this build's cat-delete still makes it off-road only.
Why is this off-road only?
Because the MKMA0017 deletes the catalytic converter on a turbo-back system, it is not ADR 79/04 compliant for road registration in NSW and is intended for off-road use only. The turbo-back includes the emissions hardware from the turbo back, and removing the cat takes out equipment the 2020-on BT-50 needs to be road-legal. We state that plainly.
What does the hotdog bring to this turbo-back?
Rather than running fully open or fitting a full muffler, this build uses a hotdog — a compact straight-through resonator. It cuts resonance and drone with minimal restriction, so the cat-less turbo-back keeps a free-breathing path and a hard note while the hotdog takes the edge off cabin boom. It's the middle ground of the 2020-on 3.0L builds: more open than the muffled version, more controlled than the fully stripped one.
