The Redback STR249D is a rear muffler in a 2.5in bore — the silencer that sits at the back of the run and does the final quietening before the tailpipe. It's listed to fit the Ford Falcon BA and BF ute built from 10/2002 to 12/2014.
Where does a rear muffler sit, and what does it do?
The rear muffler is the last box in the line, nearest the tailpipe, so it carries most of the responsibility for the note you actually hear at the back of the ute. This is a chambered silencer: it quietens by reflecting and absorbing pulses inside the body rather than just letting gas blow through. As a single rear unit it's the piece you change when the back box is the part that's tired, blowing or out of spec — not a full system.
